HURRICANE HUNTERS
Walter P. Craig, Colonel, USAF, Retired, has over 12,000 flying hours in various single engine aircraft and the following multi-engine aircraft: B-25; KC-97; C-97; C-133 and C-130s.
He has flown in-flight refueling missions; carried cargo world-wide; carried out troop drop missions in Vietnam and was a hurricane hunter in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Col. Craig’s last two assignments were: Director of Operations, Hamilton AFB, California (1973-1975) Commander of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron,Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi (1975-1977)
His extensive flying experience includes missions to the North and South Poles and flying around the world, twice. Walter studied architecture at Ohio State University prior to his military career.
Of all his varied assignments, the most gratifying and exciting experience was with the Hurricane Hunters. While serving in that capacity, he was awarded two Air Medals for completing 50 storm penetrations.
