This past Wednesday, Saguaro rotary cosponsored Tucson’s Town Hall with the Casa Adobes and Tucson Rotary clubs.  Saguaro’s Bruce Dusenberry, Arizona Town Hall Board Chair,  moderated along with Brint Milward, Director, U of A School of Government and Public Policy, Suzanne Lawder, CEO, Goodwill Industries and Mark Rubin, attorney, Mesch, Clark & Rothschild as presenters.

 

Discussion topics included strength in diversity, dissent and respectful dialogue, state unfunded pension liabilities, and the rising cost of state corrections.  In addition, the audience was presented copies of the “Highlights of the 97th Arizona Town Hall – Arizona’s Government: the next 100 years.”   Key specific recommendations included:

 

1.     Elect the best people

2.     Empower government to solve problems by seeking out best practices

3.     Reform and reorganize the executive branch

4.     Support Arizona’s judicial branch

5.     Reform the constitutional amendment process

6.     Develop long-term and strategic planning processes

7.     Refocus government priorities

8.     Increase transparency in decision-making

9.     Improve coordination among governments

10. Promote civic involvement

Upcoming events include the 98th Arizona town hall slated for May 1-4, 2011.
