Maggie McCane - Southern Arizona Against Slavery
Jun 01, 2021 12:10 PM
Maggie McCane is a Licensed Master Social Worker working as Child and Family Therapist at Casa de los Ninos, with a specialty in maladaptive sexual behaviors. Maggie attended one of SAAS’s presentations while studying at the University of Arizona, which is where she first learned of the prevalence of human trafficking. Maggie felt as though this could not be ignored, and she traveled to Indonesia and lived in Honduras to better understand power and control dynamics in different cultures, before settling in Tucson to continue this work. Maggie took over the role of President in 2017. In her spare time Maggie can be found hiking with her dog, cooking, designing the next home improvement project, or spending time with her family. We believe that community education is critical in the fight against trafficking, because everyday citizens are the ones best equipped to spot and report human trafficking. SAAS provides training to various stakeholders about the basics of human trafficking, as well as how to identify and work with victims. Social service providers, attorneys, healthcare workers, law enforcement, government agencies, and community organizations all have a role to play in fighting trafficking, and the first step is awareness and education. Request a SAAS training for your organization today. |

Outdoor Food Distribution at Community Food BankFood distribution is now taking place outdoors at our Country Club warehouse: 3003 S. Country Club Road, Tucson, AZ.
The Community Food Bank needs volunteer leads to help distribute shelf-stable and fresh groceries to families and seniors in our community! Volunteers will assist with loading product into client cars, and do other tasks related to feeding our community at our drive-through distributions. For a safe and fulfilling volunteer experience, volunteers must complete safety trainings, and should feel comfortable working outside for the duration of the shift in variable temperatures, and be able to perform physical work (more below). Be sure to look at our COVID-19 updates and recommendations before volunteering, and go to the qualifications page of your account to complete necessary trainings. Dress code: Read dress code requirements below for volunteering! Please be aware that failure to follow the dress code may result in dismissal from volunteer activity.
Safety Requirements: All volunteers must be aware of and uphold the safety expectations below in order to volunteer. Note: no lockers for storing personal items are available -- please leave them in your vehicle or at home.
NOTE that, on occasion, distribution times may extend past the allotted time or end early. If it extends, due to a large volume of clients, we ask that you stay to assist completion of all clients in distribution. Thank you for your flexibility! PARKING MAP & DIRECTIONS
