David Cohen CPA and Treasurer of the Tucson Sports & Tourism Authority (TSA), gave us a brief overview of the future of Major League Baseball Spring Training in Tucson. Although the news has not been good , and all the teams are leaving Tucson, the TSA is actually looking overseas to recruit other teams to use Tucson sports facilities.  (Tucson as you know, has much better year round weather then most of our competitors)
The TSA is hopeful that if the minimum sales tax increase they are proposing in Tucson gets approved, it will raise enough funds to repair our fields and entice others to "play" ball in Tucson.  If the funding is a go, but Tucson is unable to find major league teams to sign up, money will be spent to build more soccer, lacrosse and other fields for the Tucson youth sports teams and events. (example Tucson Soccer Shootout)
As David strongly pointed out, Spring Training brings in much needed revenue to the Tucson economy---without these dollars, Tucson and Tucson small businesses will be the losers in the long run.
