First 2006-2007 Meeting Features Memories of Fran

The first meeting for Rotary Year 2006-2007 was conducted by new President Rene' Ground, freshly returned from the RI convention in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Nineteen members attended along with special guests Tom Tilton and Tyler Kelly.  Long time member George Genematas joined us as well.

More plans for our October 8th Poker fundraiser were announced by event chairs Fred Narcaroti and Jeretta Douglas.  The location for the event will be the Sabbar Shrine Temple, located on Tucson Blvd., just South of Broadway.

Bill DeStefano, a past member of the club (inducted in 1974!) was our speaker.  Bill presented memories of Fran Coffey, a great Rotarian leader from the Saguaro club.  Saguaro has instituted a scholarship in memory of Fran and Bill helped our newer members understand how important Fran was to the club and to Rotary.  Fran was a member of Saguaro for many years and the first Governor of our then newly formed District.  The picture accompanying this article shows Fran and his loving wife Bess.
