Our speaker was Laura Cech, Development Coordinator for the ALS Association, Arizona Chapter. Laura explained what ALS is, commonly known as Lou Gerhig's Disease, it's effects and the state of progress is finding out more about this disease that typically effects 30,000 Americans at any given time. She pointed out that the survival rate is effectively zero with very few patients living more than 20 years and most dying within 5 years. She also discussed the Walk to Defeat ALS that is scheduled for October 4th, 2008. More information can be found at www.alsaz.org.

There was also discussion regarding the Board's decision to change locations to Pastiche. John MacIntire announced the decision to be effective for the August 19th meeting. See the news story for the address.
