The Saguaro Rotary Group had an excellent presentation by Rob LaMaster on Tuesday. He sent this information which explains exactly what his organization does and ways to help the Police in Tucson.
TUCSON POLICE FOUNDATION
A Vision for Safer Tucson
What We Do:

The Tucson Police Foundation funds essential equipment and programs for the Tucson Police Department which are not included in the city budget or need additional support due to budget shortfalls.  Our goal is a safer and more secure Tucson for those who live in, work in and visit our community. The Tucson Police Foundation is the largest source of private funding for the Tucson Police Department. Funding that comes from and through the Foundation goes to support a wide array of projects such as:

  • Capital Equipment Program - The Foundation has provided new and innovative equipment such as a K-9 bite suit for the Service Dog Unit to improve the quality of their training, vests for officers and TASERS, both important life saving equipment.
  • Safe Teen Accident Reduction Training Program - All teens with valid driver's licenses, between the ages of 16 and 19 may register for a 4 hour behind the wheel driver's training program at the police academy.  Teen fatalities have been significantly reduced since the inception of the program.
  • Universal Forensic Extraction Devices - Equipment that helps to gather direct evidence from cell phones in child murder, abuse, and molesting cases.  In the first four hours of being provided with one of these pieces of equipment by the Foundation, Tucson Police Detectives were able to capture and prosecute a child stalker who was attempting to set up a meeting with a 14 year old girl for sex.
  • Quick Clot Trauma Bandages - Every TPD police vehicle contains a Quick Clot Trauma Bandage to stop serious life threatening bleeding of anyone subsequent to a shooting, stabbing or other serious injury.  The department has already saved one life since the inception of these bandages last summer.
  • Training and Education - Specialized training is often the first thing cut from budgets during times of financial crisis. With this in mind, the Foundation has recently funded investigative training for up to 35 officers. We expect this need to continue to grow.
We need your partnership to help make Tucson the safest city in America.   The Tucson Police Department has a philosophy of community focused policing, while they are short in staff and in equipment, we can be the officer's partner in the patrol car by helping to provide them with the best training, the best equipment, and to support programs they know will help to make our community safer!
Here is How Our Community Members Can Help
Membership:  Your membership in the Foundation is the first step in helping our officers to address the serious problems in our community, where we live, work, or visit.
Friend of the Force:  Whether you are an individual, own your own business, or you represent a philanthropic organization, you can become a Friend of the Force and be a "Force Multiplier" against crime.   ($7,500 - $10,000 - $12,000+)
Sponsor An Event:   If you are interested becoming an event sponsor we have these great annual events for which you are able to be a sponsor, making it possible for the Foundation to focus all of the proceeds of the event toward the mission of making Tucson a safer community in which to live and work.
Unsung Heroes Banquet - Help us to recognize the men and women who risk their lives and go "above and beyond" their normal duty
Cops and Rodders Car Show - Help support programs such as Gang Outreach, PAL, Santa Cop, Community Food Bank and the Capital Equipment Campaign.
K-9 Walk for Dogs - Help to support the K-9 Officers and other capital equipment campaign needs.
Thank A Cop - Your contribution helps with the three "T's", Tactical, Technical, and Training, or safety equipment, technology, and training
Endowment Campaign - Your contribution will help to ensure the future of the Foundation to make a difference for our community for years to come, and to keep the goal of making Tucson the safest city in America in the forefront of our wonderful city.

Youth Programs - Make your contribution directly to youth programs designed to promote the safety and welfare of the youth of our community, through programs such as S.T.A.R.T., P.A.L., Gang Outreach and Scholarships for students.
