Following the air show last weekend, the club is in a full power take off!

Membership continues to spark with two returning Guests of the Club - Scott Forgues from Merrill Lynch and Chris Horbert of Sun State Bank. Last week we also met Henry Raszkowski from Long Realty.

Secretary Maurice Saroni reported our March attendance figure of 89% - highest of all 54 clubs in the district!

Maurice was also recognized for his second trip to Agua Prieta with the Agua Prieta Family Shelters project. These work trips involve the 3 hour drive to Douglas for an 8 AM start time, followed by two days of hard work building a shelter under difficult conditions. He reported that a family was able to move from a lean-to that they shared with others into this new insulated, brick building. Maurice truly exemplified Rotary ideals in this project! The Saguaro Rotary Club Foundation supported the project with a $3,500 donation - covering the materials to build one shelter.

Foundation President Dave Becker reported that the club has exceeded its goal for giving to the Rotary International Foundation this Rotary Year. We have contributed 107% of our goal of $100 per member, and the Rotary Year doesn't end until June 30. We are ranked #9 in per capita giving among the 54 clubs in the district.

An instant fundraiser added further to our support of RI when we auctioned off framed copies of the "Four Way Test" for display in member's place of business. Christine Alexander, Joe Tatar, and Bruce Dusenberry were the winning bidders. Thank you!

The meeting concluded with a most inspirational presentation by Mark Hollinger and Jessica Cox representing Wright Flight. This organization, which originated in Tucson, conducts a program where kids achieve a set of academic and personal goals and are rewarded by a flight in a small plane where they can take over the controls and experience the thrill of flying. Jessica participated in the Wright Flight program, overcoming the obstacle of being born without arms to become a pilot and will soon solo for her license.

If you missed this meeting, you missed a great example of why Rotary, and Saguaro Rotary in particular, is such a great organization. See you next week!
