Lots of guests, at least 10!, joined us to pack the room for our May 8th meeting. Friends, spouses, co-workers, and prospective members enjoyed fellowship and a great lunch.

Our speaker was Veronica Becker, one of the writers of the ABC TV prime-time hit "Ugly Betty". Veronica gave us a lot of insight into the business of television and the writing and production processes for this hour long comedy/drama. She added a few hints about what the future holds for the show's characters and answered many questions from the Betty Fans in the room!

The Club Board will be reviewing a membership application from Henry Raszkowski of Long Realty. Henry has attended a number of club meetings - if you haven't met him, make sure to introduce yourself.

The Saguaro Rotary Foundation Board held their last meeting of this Rotary year on Friday, May 11th. The Foundation awarded funds to support three good causes:
$480 for Flowing Wells High School Summer School scholarships. This will allow six students to attend who could not otherwise afford it.
$350 for the Arizona Daily Star "Send a Kid to Camp" program. This will send one child to camp on Mt. Lemmon for a week.
$250 to the YMCA "Changing Lives" campaign. This subsidizes fees to the YMCA summer programs for deserving kids.

The total amount awarded by the Foundation this year, including these three awards and donations to the RI Paul Harris fund, is $10,843. Major fundraisers this year included Entertainment Books, yielding $1,174, and the Poker tournament last October, which generated $3,450. With other direct donations to the Foundation and support from the district and RI, we will carry forward a reserve of about $4,000 into the next Rotary year. See the complete list of Foundation awards on the Foundation page of the Saguaro Rotary web site.
