Nov.12, 2012 Debbie Kornmiller Send a Kid to Camp
Debbie Kornmiller from The Arizona Daily Star will present the Sportsmen's Fund Send a Kid to Camp program. Each year The Arizona Daily Star raises money so children from low-income households and military families can attend overnight YMCA, Boy Scout and Girl Scout and Camp Courage burn camps. Five years ago, the Send a Kid to Camp mission was expanded to send children whose parents or guardians are in the military to these local camps for free.
The Sportsmen's Fund is one of the oldest 501(c)(3) charities in Southern Arizona and was founded in 1947. Your contribution is tax-deductible, qualifying for the state's working-poor charitable tax credit of up to $400. Our goal
We hope to raise $190,000 to send 700 children to overnight camps.
So far we have raised: $82,579 total donations -874 number of donations in 2012 -35,100 number of children readers and the Sportsmen's Fund have helped send to camp since 1947
Why we give
My mother, Helen Jedele, who is 99 years old, sent $170 last year to the camp fund - all her bingo winnings! So far this year we have sent $100 and have another $10 ready to go. She lives in assisted living and really enjoys bingo; at 50 cents a game, this shows just how sharp she is. She loves the idea of kids getting to go to camp because of her efforts and encourages others to do the same to help out.
