BIO: Born and raised in Tucson, Jonathan is a native Tucsonan. His grandmother, Sydel, came to Tucson in 1942 and opened Valley Fair, a used furniture store on South 6th Avenue. His father, Lowell, attended Tucson High School and the University of Arizona.

A graduate of Canyon del Oro High School, Kenyon College and the University of New Mexico Law School, Jonathan served as a law clerk for United States District Court Judge Alfredo Marquez. He then joined the law firm of Mesch, Clark & Rothschild, Imagewhere he has served as managing partner since 2001. In addition to his own law practice helping businesses and individuals, Jonathan is responsible for the day-to-day management of a 21-attorney firm.

Jonathan has a long history of extensive service with local non-profits – as a leader and a worker. He has served in various capacities, including Board President of Casa de los Ninos, Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, and Temple Emanu-El.

He is a member of the Tucson Parks & Recreation Commission and currently serves as Chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council. Jonathan has also served on the Boards of the Tucson Medical Center Foundation, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Friends of the University Libraries, University of Arizona and the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona.

Other responsibilities, past and present, include:

  • Adjunct Professor, James E. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona
  • Chair, Committee on Examinations, State Bar of Arizona
  • Project Coordinator, Operation Deep Freeze
  • Member, SMART Project, Pima County Sheriff’s Department
  • Treasurer, Pima County Democratic Party

Jonathan’s wife, Karen, is a physical therapist working with children in schools and hospitals. Their son Isaac is an attorney who recently became an associate at Mesch, Clark & Rothschild. Their son Nathan is in his third year of law school and their daughter Molly is in her sophomore year at college.

When Jonathan is not spending time with his family (and the family dogs), he is an avid reader and hiker. His favorite last vacation was seeing his father, Lowell, inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Reno, Nevada.
